Clove was earlier found only in Malakka Island but now it is being cultivated in Kerala and Tamilnadu states of the Southern part of India. Mostly it is exported from Singapore. The clove tree develops flowers when it is nine years old. Its flower buds are plucked and dried, which is the clove available in open market.
Outer shape: Its evergreen tree is around 40 feet high and from the trunk, soft branches emerge out in large number. The leaves are green, 3-6 inches in length with oval shape. The fruits are of violet colour and scent-full. The fruit is of clove shape, which is called as mother clove.
Chemical composition: It contains vapourising oil, which has eugenol, emil eugenol and kerofiline as primary ingredients. Cloves have other important chemicals too.
Quality: It is acerbic, beneficial for eyes, cool, digestible and treats 'kapha', 'pitta', blood related diabetes, thirst, vomiting, pain, breathing problem, hiccups, tuberculosis and gastric troubles. Clove oil is peptic, treats gastric disorders, teeth pain and the vomiting during pregnancy.
Special qualities of cloves: Clove improves appetite and lends strength to the abdominal juice. It generates interest in meals making human soul happy. The clove also kills worms.Minute worm, responsible for swelling of the stomach, gets killed with its consumption. It strengthens disease prevention system of the body. It also improves energy consciousness. It also negates foul odour emanating from the body. Its oil, when massaged externally gives consciousness, kills pain and treats ulcer. It is diuretics, which purifies urinate tube and expels foreign and unwanted elements from the body via urine.
Medicinal use: Headache and mibraine problem -- Take six grams of clove, finely grind it and prepare a paste with water. Apply a little hot on temple, which immediately gives relief in headache and migraine pain.
Eye problem: Finely grind clove in copper pot and mix with good quality honey. Apply it on the eyes, which treat the white portion of the eyes.
Headache due to coryza: Take two cloves and grind it with 0.5 grams of opium and water to prepare a paste. Apply it on the front, which treats headache due to coryza.
For cough treatment: Take 2 grams of clove, a little grinded and boil with 125 grams of water. When the residue remains one fourth, take it out, filter. Warm a little again and drink, which takes out cough from the body.
Foul breath: When kept in mouth, it treats foul odour problem of the breath.
Asthma: Take equal portion of clove, 'Ankara' flower and black salt and prepare a tablet of the size of a gram seed. Chew it, which treats the asthma and breathe related diseases.
Inflammation: Mix 2-4 finely crushed cloves in cold water and add candy to it. Its use gives relief in the inflammation in the heart.
